Doha, May 13 (BNA): On the second day of competition, Team Bahrain won one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, bringing their total number of medals at the 4th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Games to 11.
Team Bahrain medal tally rises to 11 at GCC Games
The women’s 3×3 basketball team from Bahrain won the gold medal after defeating Kuwait 21–17 in the championship game.
Bahrain won the silver medal in the men’s competition after making it to the final and losing 20–12 to the hosts, Qatar.
After defeating Saudi Arabia in the final, Bahrain’s national table tennis team also took home the silver medal. Bahrain’s players performed well technically throughout the game, despite the 3-0 outcome.
Bahrain won two more medals in boxing when Ali Omar and Omar Ismail Boudahi made it to the finals.
Ali Omar went to the 75kg final after defeating UAE boxer Abdullah Saif, while Boudahi qualified for the 60kg final after defeating Mohammed Al Junaibi in the semi-final.
Additionally, Bahraini swimmers kept adding to the Kingdom’s medal total. In the men’s 400-meter freestyle, Robert William won the bronze medal with a timing of 3:57.97 minutes.
In the 100-meter freestyle relay, Bahrain also won another bronze medal thanks to the national swimming team’s focused effort.
Despite losing in the knockout stages, Bahrain’s fencing team—which included Abdulkarim Saad, Ali Al Omairi, and Hamad Al Attawi—performed competitively in the foil tournament, demonstrating the sport’s ongoing growth in Bahrain.
After competing in the men’s under-68kg division of taekwondo, Abdullah Al Doseri finished Bahrain’s involvement in the competition.
After a fiercely contested encounter, Bahrain’s pool team, represented by brothers Hussain and Haider Yaqoob, was eliminated from the 10-ball doubles competition. On Thursday, the two will take part in the 9-ball singles competition.
After putting up great performances against fierce Gulf competition, Bahrain’s show jumping team placed fifth in the team competition.
In support of Team Bahrain’s involvement in the Games, Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Shooting Federation, attended the show jumping team competition. During the Games, Bahrain’s shooting team is also expected to compete.
On Thursday, Team Bahrain will continue to compete in the third day of the GCC Games.
Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Khalid Waleed, Tamar Ali, Latifa Al Najem, Maryam Al Asam, and Fatima Al Muhaysini will represent Bahrain in the skeet shooting competition over 75 targets.
Athletic competitions will also begin on the third day of the Games. Nelly Krir and Zainab Mohammed will compete in the women’s 800-meter run, while Noora Jassim will compete in the women’s discus throw.
Abdulrahman Mahmood will compete in the men’s shot-put event, Abdulsamad Hirsi in the men’s 800-meter sprint, and Ahmed Sabri in the men’s high jump.

Ali Haji will compete in the men’s 100-meter race, while Laila Kamal and Raihana Rashid will compete in the women’s 100-meter race.
Bahrain’s table tennis team, which consists of Rashid Sanad, Mohammed Abbas, Sayed Murtadha, Elias Al Yasi, Dana Al Khayat, and Yan Rashid, will compete in singles and doubles, while brothers Haider and Hussain Yaqoob will play in the 9-ball pool match.
In their quest for gold, Team Bahrain will also rely on boxers Omar Ismail Boudahi and Ali Omar in the 60 kg and 75 kg finals, respectively.
In swimming, Abdullah Khalid and Saud Ali will compete in the 100-meter breaststroke, while Ahmed Suhail and Robert William will compete in the 400-meter medley.
Ahmed Abdulnabi and Michael will compete in the 50-meter butterfly event, while Sayed Ahmed Alawi will swim in the 200-meter freestyle. The swimming team from Bahrain will finish the day with a 200-meter freestyle relay.
