New York, April 12 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain presided over a Security Council discussion on the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) as part of its April UN Security Council presidency.

Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaiei, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s permanent representative to the UN in New York, presided over the meeting. Peter Due, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK; Glauk Konjufca, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo; and Marko Đurić, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, all gave briefings.
Ambassador Al Rowaiei praised all positive efforts to improve relations, especially those with Western Balkan nations. He also applauded the establishment of the Kosovo government in February 2026, pointing out that long-term political stability is necessary to establish favorable circumstances for upholding security and stability and promoting initiatives for development and prosperity.
In his statement, he emphasized three main points, including urging Serbia and Kosovo to participate in the EU-facilitated Pristina-Belgrade conversation in a constructive and sincere manner. Additionally, he applauded the trilateral meeting between Serbia, Kosovo, and the EU, highlighting Bahrain’s focus on putting communication and diplomacy first and seizing opportunities.
In the wake of the 1998–1999 events in Kosovo, Ambassador Al Rowaiei praised the collaboration between Kosovar and Serbian authorities in their search for 1,582 missing persons. He emphasized Bahrain’s stance on the significance of fostering tolerance and coexistence between the two nations as well as bolstering trust.
He reaffirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s support for deepening relations and fostering collaboration between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the significance of coming to mutual understandings and agreements that help to preserve security and stability in the Western Balkans.
