January 8, Manama (BNA): The first annual Bahrain Thoracic Conference (BTC 2026), hosted by Government Hospitals on January 8–9, was opened by Lieutenant General Doctor Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Health (SCH). The theme of the conference was “Recent Advancements in the Diagnosis and Management of Thoracic Diseases.” A prestigious collection of professionals and consultants attend the conference.
SCH Chairman inaugurates first Bahrain Thoracic Conference
The SCH Chairman stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain’s dedication to advancing the healthcare industry and bolstering ongoing medical education is demonstrated by the staging of this specialized conference. In order to improve the quality of healthcare services given to patients, he emphasized the significance of scientific conferences in fostering the exchange of expertise and staying up to date with the most recent international trends in the diagnosis and treatment of chest and respiratory disorders.
The Government Hospitals Administration’s CEO, Dr. Maryam Athbi Al Jalahma, stated that the conference’s hosting is a component of the administration’s plan to support specialized medical fields, develop healthcare professionals’ skills, and offer scientific platforms that support the advancement of clinical practice in accordance with the highest international standards. She commended the successful collaboration with partners in organizing this specialized scientific event, the high organizational standards, and the robust scientific participation.
The conference’s objectives, according to Dr. Muneer Mahdi, Consultant Pulmonologist and Sleep Medicine, Head of the Respiratory Unit at Salmaniya Medical Complex, and Chairman of BTC 2026, are to present the most recent scientific advancements in chest and respiratory diseases, address important clinical issues, and arrange useful workshops to improve the abilities of physicians and other healthcare professionals. He took satisfaction in the large number of experts and specialists from both inside and outside the Kingdom.
Asthma, pulmonary hypertension, chronic obstructive lung disease, and chest infections are only a few of the specialized topics covered by the scientific program. Sessions on thoracic surgery, respiratory care, and mechanical ventilation are also included, demonstrating the conference’s broad reach and significance in promoting the ongoing advancement of healthcare services in this field.
