September 1, Manama (BNA): Bahrain’s strong support for the manufacturing sector, which is a pillar of the country’s economy, was emphasized by Minister of Industry and Commerce Abdullah bin Adel Fakhro.
Industry Minister highlights support for Bahrain’s manufacturing sector as cornerstone of national economy
In order to increase competitiveness, self-sufficiency, and the ability of the local industrial sector to continue playing a crucial role in promoting sustainable development, he emphasized the significance of persistent efforts to localize industries and substitute superior domestic goods for imports.
The Minister pointed out that industrial enterprises are exempt from customs taxes under Decision (63) of 2025 on the regulations for exempting industrial inputs from them if one of the following requirements is satisfied: The inputs are either not manufactured or accessible in Bahrain, cannot be acquired in accordance with the standards established by the industrial establishment, cannot be produced locally within a given timeframe, or have a local cost that is more than 10% more than the imported counterpart.
He clarified that these rules are a calculated move to boost local content, boost local added value, and make the industrial sector more competitive—all of which will contribute to the sustainability of Bahrain’s supply chains. Additionally, they enhance Bahraini industrial establishments’ ability to develop and flourish.
In order to help Bahraini manufacturers increase their productivity and competitiveness, strengthen Bahrain’s standing as a regional and global center of advanced industry, and support the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, Minister Fakhro added that creating economic and regulatory policies that encourage local content is in line with the goals of the Industry Sector Strategy (2022–2026).
