Manama, Sep. 9 (BNA): According to the Chief Prosecutor of the Cybercrime Prosecution, the Lower Criminal Court found a defendant guilty and sentenced him to one year in prison with immediate effect. The court also ordered the confiscation of the defendant’s phone for publishing posts that publicly denigrated Islamic symbols, which could cause strife and threaten social harmony.

The Chief Prosecutor clarified that the case’s specifics began when the Public Prosecution received a report from the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security’s Cybercrime Directorate. The report claimed that the defendant had posted remarks on a social media platform that included derogatory and abusive remarks about individuals who were considered to be revered Islamic symbols. The posts received a lot of attention.
The Cybercrime Prosecution ordered the defendant’s arrest and production as soon as it received the report and began its investigation. He acknowledged publishing the posts after being questioned and shown the monitored posts and the investigation’s conclusions.
The Public Prosecution’s evidence led it to order the defendant to be held in custody and refer him to a criminal trial, which resulted in the aforementioned verdict.
The Chief Prosecutor reaffirmed the Public Prosecution’s steadfast commitment to combating any illegal use of social media for criminal الأنشطة or to disparage religious leaders and symbols in a way that would jeopardize the unity of the country.
