Manama, January 9 (BNA): In collaboration with the GCC General Secretariat, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) organized the Gulf Archaeology Symposium, “Gulf Archaeological Heritage: Discovery and Preservation,” at the Bahrain National Museum on January 6–7, 2026. Prominent scholars and experts from GCC nations attended.

The event, according to BACA President Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, reflects Bahrain’s commitment to bolstering joint Gulf cooperation in archaeology. He emphasized the significance of such forums in advancing research and preservation efforts and stressed that shared archaeological heritage is essential to the collective cultural identity of GCC states.
Dr. Salman Ahmed Al Mahari, Director General of Antiquities, gave a keynote address during the opening session. He emphasized the importance of regional and international cooperation as well as Bahrain’s approach to maintaining and protecting ancient sites.
Specialized workshops on site management and conservation, the application of digital technology and artificial intelligence in heritage documentation and preservation, and new archaeological finds were also part of the symposium.
