Nov. 23, Manama (BNA): Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa visited the Muharraq City Development Project to assess its progress in accordance with orders from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to preserve Bahrain’s historical and cultural identity.

According to Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla, the Royal Vision is a crucial component of Muharraq’s continuous urban growth. He pointed out that maintaining urban sites and designing cities depend on historical and cultural identity. Under the direction of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, he said, the development projects show the government’s dedication to protecting the city’s legacy, modernizing its services and infrastructure, and transforming its past into a long-term cultural and commercial value. With this strategy, Muharraq is positioned as an example of balanced development that promotes modernization while preserving the urban legacy of the Kingdom.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that ongoing projects at all of the project’s locations adhere to a holistic vision that is built on cooperation between all pertinent parties using the Team Bahrain methodology. This guarantees coordinated efforts and speeds up advancement. He went on to say that this cohesive strategy addresses the requirements of locals while promoting growth, maintains Muharraq’s historical character, and promotes execution to the greatest standards.

Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Works, briefed the Deputy Prime Minister during the field tour about the development of Shaikh Abdullah Avenue and Shaikh Isa Avenue, including improvements to façades and infrastructure services in line with the Isa Al Kabeer Palace Project. 37% of the work has been completed.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, then spoke about the Muharraq City Development Project’s under-construction Visitors Center. She clarified that the center will act as a venue for presenting and recording the project’s goals and key stages. Additionally, it will have offices to handle project-related applications and inquiries, promote awareness of the significance of maintaining the city’s historical and cultural identity, streamline processes, and improve communication between property owners and pertinent organizations. As of right now, the completion rate is 65%.

The first phase of the housing units project at Freej Seyadi and Freej Bin Hindi was also assessed by Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla. During this phase, 300 dwelling units will be built and restored throughout the city’s many neighborhoods. These units will be created in accordance with contemporary urban norms, respecting the social fabric and heritage character of older districts. Additionally, he examined the model homes at both locations, where 66% of them were completed.

The Deputy Prime Minister conveyed his gratitude for the work teams’ efforts in all pertinent organizations. He emphasized the significance of carrying out the project’s phases in accordance with authorized schedules and with a caliber that honors Muharraq’s historical significance and its contribution to the formation of national identity.

His Majesty the King, HRH the Crown Prince, and Prime Minister all support the preservation of Muharraq’s architectural and cultural identity, according to Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah. Additionally, he praised the locals’ collaboration and contributions to the development project’s accomplishment.

According to Minister Al Rumaihi, these field trips demonstrate the assistance and focus provided by the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects, which is led by Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah, to guarantee implementation in accordance with the project’s goals and the highest standards.

She emphasized that in order to promote sustainable urban growth and preserve Bahrain’s historic legacy, the Muharraq City growth Project incorporates the vision of His Majesty the King and the directions of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. According to her, the initiative enhances Muharraq’s standing as an urban, cultural, and historical icon of the Kingdom.

The project, according to Minister Al Rumaihi, is an example of how government agencies can work together to implement large-scale development projects in a way that has accelerated progress and produced concrete results that benefit citizens while maintaining the true urban identity of places with cultural and historical significance.
