Riyadh, Nov. 20 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain surpassed its previous record for both gold medals and total medals in the Sixth Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, achieving its best-ever performance. With one day left in the competition, Bahrain has won 30 medals, including 15 gold. This surpasses the 23 medals—nine of which were gold—won at the Konya competition in 2022.

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s support and the efforts of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, led by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), President of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), are reflected in the results.
Bahrain won seven more gold in fencing and athletics on the penultimate day.
Salwa Eid Naser took silver in the women’s 200-meter race, while Edidiong Odiong won gold. Berhanu Balew won silver in the men’s 5000m, while Nelly Korir won gold in the women’s 1500m. Noora Jassim earned bronze in the shot throw, and the Kingdom took home silver in the mixed 4×400-meter relay.
With 17 medals, including 10 gold, Bahrain finished first in the athletics medal standings.
The women’s foil team defeated Oman in a tough final to win silver in fencing. Maryam Khan, Retaj Haitham, and Sumaya Al Buainain made up the team.
Bahrain is still in the running for more medals and will wrap up its participation tomorrow. After defeating Kuwait, Iraq, and Qatar and losing to Saudi Arabia in the group round, the national handball team will face Saudi Arabia in the final.
Bahrain will also participate in women’s parapowerlifting, wrestling, and jiu-jitsu. The lightweight para powerlifting competition will include Amal Ali, while the elimination rounds will feature wrestlers Magomedrasul Asluev (74 kg), Khidir Saipudinov (86 kg), Ahmed Taj Al Deen (97 kg), and Shamil Sharipov (125 kg).
With widespread public interest and expectations for further podium finishes, the delegation hopes to wrap up its participation with a bang.
