He pointed out that the Kingdom’s long-term goal to protect its natural resources and improve environmental sustainability is reflected in this priority.

Municipalities Minister: Tree Week and irrigation innovation boost community sustainability

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s proposal to start this year’s “Tree Week,” which aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage the adoption of eco-friendly activities, was commended by the minister. He also praised HRH’s order to hold a competition called “Innovation in Irrigation Solutions,” which aims to inspire innovative concepts and workable solutions that improve contemporary irrigation techniques and increase their application in public spaces. He claimed that these initiatives support the Kingdom’s sustainable water resource management, afforestation, and green space growth.

According to him, the competition offers a nationwide forum to encourage irrigation innovation and the application of cutting-edge technologies. In order to increase agricultural output and urban landscaping throughout Bahrain, it promotes businesses and individuals to create workable solutions that increase water-use efficiency and guarantee its fair distribution for irrigation.

In keeping with the Kingdom’s objective of lowering carbon emissions by 30% by 2035 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060, Al Mubarak continued, the Tree Week campaign and the innovation competition help to carry out Bahrain’s national afforestation plan, which aims to double the number of trees to 3.6 million by 2035. By 2035, the strategy also aims to triple the amount of mangroves.

In order to encourage good environmental practices and fortify the tree-planting culture throughout society, he pointed out that Tree Week encompasses a variety of events and community activities including the public and private sectors, municipal councils, and local communities.

The minister came to the conclusion that by implementing these programs, Bahrain hopes to raise public awareness of environmental issues, uphold the values of sustainable development, encourage the adoption of eco-friendly technology, and foster increased community involvement in environmental preservation and resource conservation.
