Interior Ministry: IRGC-linked organisation consisting of members of dissolved Scholars council formed terrorist group

The organization’s members had organized and commanded a terrorist group, funded terrorism, collaborated with Iran and terrorist organizations in Iraq and Lebanon, and obtained military training to support their actions.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Interior declared that 41 members of the organization had been arrested in the Kingdom of Bahrain as a result of security measures it had implemented. It has been determined that eleven other Iranian members serve as go-betweens for the IRGC and its agents in the Kingdom.

The ministry reported that members of the group engaged in clandestine activities, exploited Bahrain’s Shia community, and engaged in systematic intimidation. It further stated that the group has penetrated important areas of community activity as well as a number of religious, social, philanthropic, and educational organizations, such as kindergartens, schools, and religious seminaries. At the expense of national patriotism, this sought to foster devotion to foreign organizations, particularly the IRGC, while inciting animosity toward the state and disdain for its laws. It further stated that the group aimed to sway and weaken Bahrain’s Shiite community’s national will.

The ministry further stated that members of the group used intimidation against people in charge of religious events, mosques, and matams (community centers) in an effort to manipulate and politicize sermons given by religious experts and Hussaini reciters. It claimed that in addition to collecting money for illegal activities and purposes, the organization also committed crimes and engaged in practices that instilled fear in the populace. It also posed a threat to community security and civil peace by accepting money from IRGC agents in Iran to fund terrorist activities in Bahrain.

The Ministry of Interior stated that the organization’s operations had been observed and monitored, and that the actions taken were intended to protect the Kingdom of Bahrain’s security as well as the safety and stability of society in all of its facets.

The ministry emphasized that it will continue to combat any threats to the security and stability of the Kingdom and will take decisive measures against any attempts to sabotage civil peace or sow dissension and division within Bahraini society.
