Manama, April 9 (BNA): The announcement by US President Donald Trump of a two-week ceasefire agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran, together with agreements to completely, promptly, and safely reopen the Strait of Hormuz, has been welcomed by the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised Pakistan’s successful mediation efforts, which led to the agreement, and stated that this development might assist create a favorable atmosphere for diplomacy and de-escalation in the Middle East.

In accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), the Ministry emphasized that this measure should result in an immediate and complete cessation of all hostile and unjustified Iranian attacks against Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. It also emphasized how important it is that Iran adhere to all of its commitments under international law, including pertinent international resolutions and the values of good neighborliness.

It also demanded a long-term solution that prevents Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, stops the development and spread of ballistic missiles and drones, and abstains from actions that could jeopardize regional and international security, such as using proxy organizations and meddling in other nations’ domestic affairs.

In order to strengthen the truce and bring about enduring peace in the Middle East, the Ministry also reiterated Bahrain’s support for ongoing regional and international mediation efforts. It emphasized the significance of maintaining the operation of major waterways, such as the Strait of Hormuz, protecting citizens and vital infrastructure, and protecting air and marine navigation. It further emphasized how crucial these actions are to preserving the stability of the world’s energy supply, safeguarding trade, and fostering long-term regional and global peace and prosperity.
