October 4, London (BNA): General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of the Interior, visited Durham Constabulary as part of his trip to the United Kingdom. He was joined by Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Kingdom, and several other senior Ministry of Interior officials.

Chief Constable Rachel Bacon welcomed General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah and his group to Durham Police Headquarters and emphasised the value of the visit in enhancing the successful collaboration between Durham Constabulary and the Ministry of Interior. The visit, she said, supports the introduction of advanced training programs and workshops in a number of law enforcement and policing fields.

General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah praised the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom’s close ties and strategic collaboration, highlighting the significance of further strengthening cooperation founded on a shared commitment to preserving global peace and security.

The Minister conveyed gratitude for the extensive training and collaboration between the two parties. He emphasized Bahrain‘s dedication to the highest standards of professionalism in law enforcement, pointing out that Durham’s proficiency in forensics, investigations, and leadership development had been advantageous to Ministry staff.

In keeping with the Ministry’s plan to improve the effectiveness and capacities of police personnel in all facets of law enforcement, he continued, both parties decided to investigate suggested future areas of collaboration, such as training on the newest policing techniques.

With the help of Durham Constabulary’s expertise and best practices, the Minister was certain that collaboration could be further increased.

Specialized courses in professional investigation and forensic science were among the training programs that were previously held between the two parties. Topics like fighting transnational organized crime and using artificial intelligence in law enforcement are anticipated to be covered in future programs.

Durham Constabulary gave presentations on road safety programs, school participation, community policing efforts, and police leadership during the workshop.

General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah also described Bahrain’s experience with community integration and rehabilitation through the open prisons and alternative sentencing programs. He emphasized the Community Police Directorate’s “Together” (Ma’an) anti-violence and addiction awareness program, which is being carried out in all Bahraini schools in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

In order to further improve police performance, the meeting covered ways to fortify the fruitful training collaboration and share expertise.
