A new program that permits qualified prisoners to enroll in academic programs at Bahrain Polytechnic was unveiled during the visit.

In order to maintain educational continuity while taking the conditions of the offenders into account, the program blends online and in-person instruction. Passing Bahrain Polytechnic’s entrance exam is a prerequisite for admission, guaranteeing that determined students will participate.

The initiative is the outcome of collaborative efforts by the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation, Bahrain Polytechnic, the Nasser Vocational Training Center, the Ombuds Office, the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission, and the National Institution for Human Rights, according to Ghada Hameed Habib, Secretary-General of the Ombuds Office.

She continued by saying that the program is a reflection of Bahrain’s dedication to upholding human rights and dignity as well as to offering opportunities for education and rehabilitation that benefit prisoners, their families, and the community.

The program strengthens prisoners’ feeling of accountability and gives them the skills and discipline they need to find work following their release, according to Hamad Salman Taqi, Director of the Correction and Detention Facilities Monitoring Directorate at the Ombuds Office. He went on to say that it supports other Ministry of Interior initiatives like open jails and alternative sentencing, which highlight Bahrain‘s dedication to human rights and reform-focused strategy.
