New York, April 1 (BNA): The world community received factual information from the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York that disproved the false Iranian accusations made in correspondence from the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Mission. On March 30, the Kingdom’s Mission wrote a ninth letter in its national capacity to the President of the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Bahrain UN mission rejects Iranian claims, refutes allegations
The unjustified accusations in the letter dated March 18 from the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations (S/2026/198) were categorically rejected by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the strongest terms, according to a statement released by the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the UN. The statement emphasized that the allegations are baseless and untrue.
Iran’s strikes against the Kingdom of Bahrain were and still are unjustifiable, according to the statement. It reaffirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s complete regard for the UN Charter’s tenets of sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in a state’s internal affairs, and good neighborliness. It further stated that Iran has conducted and continues to conduct military operations against Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, particularly the Kingdom of Bahrain, in spite of the GCC’s repeated diplomatic attempts to prevent escalation. Vital civilian infrastructure, civilian airports, seaports, commercial ports, energy infrastructure, oil facilities, basic food supplies, desalination plants, roads, shipping centers, residential areas, hotels, and apartment buildings are just a few of the civilian locations that these operations have purposefully targeted.
The statement cited statements made by the GCC on February 28, the GCC Ministerial Council on March 1, the Arab League Ministerial Statement on March 8, the GCC-EU Ministerial Meeting on March 5, and the meeting of the Permanent Representatives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to the United Nations in New York on March 5. It also mentioned that on March 11, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2817, which was supported by 136 nations and submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain on behalf of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the GCC states. This resolution articulated the position of the international community. The resolution declared that Iran’s attacks against the Kingdom of Bahrain and other nations in the region violate international law and pose a grave threat to global peace and security. It demanded that the Islamic Republic of Iran immediately stop all of its attacks. The statement noted that ongoing Iranian strikes on the Kingdom of Bahrain constitute a blatant breach of Resolution 2817 and urged Iran to immediately and unconditionally stop all provocations and threats against neighboring countries.
In its recent address to the UN, Iran attempted to shift responsibility for its ongoing attacks by claiming that the Kingdom of Bahrain bears international responsibility for compensation, including reforms. The statement rejected such claims as unfounded. It restated the Kingdom of Bahrain’s opposition to any attempt to falsify information or avoid accountability. In addition to calling for de-escalation and reiterating their commitment to regional and global peace and security, the statement stated that on February 19, the Islamic Republic of Iran threatened to use force, a warning that the GCC governments rejected. It further stated that since February 28, the Kingdom of Bahrain has been the target of unlawful and unwarranted attacks, including those that persisted after Security Council Resolution 2817 was adopted. This is confirmed by evidence acknowledged by the international community.
The statement addressed Iran’s attack on Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, during a gathering of foreign ministers from twelve UN members, alluding to Iranian aggression. It emphasized how completely unjustified these attacks are. The statement also mentioned the frequent strikes by Iran on the Kingdom of Bahrain, which caused serious harm to civilian infrastructure and facilities as well as fatalities and injuries among people. These data plainly demonstrate that these assaults were intentional and illegal, targeting only residential areas and directly endangering the lives and safety of civilians. As such, they clearly violated international law, particularly international humanitarian law.
The letter reaffirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s full and legitimate right to self-defense in a manner proportionate to the nature of the threats to which the Kingdom is exposed, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, within the framework of international law, and in coordination with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s allies and partners, in light of these ongoing attacks, which the Security Council has strongly denounced and confirmed as illegitimate. The letter emphasized the urgent need for Iran to fully comply with international law and Resolution 2817, stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ongoing submission of false information to the Security Council does not contribute to de-escalation.
In response to Iran’s persistent transgressions that violate international law and jeopardize regional and global peace and security, the letter urged the Security Council to denounce any attempt to rationalize, justify, or avoid accountability for such hostile acts.
The speech’s conclusion emphasized that the Kingdom of Bahrain is evaluating the harm inflicted by the vicious Iranian aggression and will keep the UN updated on all developments.
