October 12, Manama (BNA): Following the conclusion of the specified ban period, the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) declared that the prohibition on capturing kingfish (Kanaad) and the prohibition on exhibiting and selling the fish in marketplaces and public areas for marketing or sale will be lifted on October 15.

The Council stated that in accordance with the resolutions of the 23rd meeting of the GCC Agricultural Cooperation Committee, which delineated measures to safeguard kingfish stocks, the seasonal fishing ban was put into effect under Decree No. (20) of 2002 on the regulation, exploitation, and protection of marine wealth.

The SCE confirmed that by controlling fishing methods and limiting fishery depletion, the prohibition on kingfish harvesting during the breeding season—which ran from August 15 to October 15—was intended to improve fish populations and preserve the natural balance of maritime habitats.

The administration of SCE urged all parties to continue adhering to the current regulatory measures and to support initiatives meant to preserve and sustain the Kingdom’s marine resources, praising the cooperation and sense of national responsibility displayed by fishermen during the ban period.
