Manama, Oct. 9 (BNA): The Ministry of Interior has declared that the General Directorate of Traffic will enhance its field operations in the near future, in collaboration with police departments throughout all governorates, to identify offenses and hazardous behaviors concerning electric bikes and scooters that contravene Decision (58) of 2026. Legal measures will be pursued against those who violate the regulations.

The General Directorate clarified that the rules regarding electric scooters mandate their use exclusively in specified zones, with a speed limit of 25 km/h, and forbid carrying extra passengers or riding against traffic. Users are also required to wear helmets and follow safety and security protocols. Children younger than seven years old are not allowed to ride unless they are directly supervised by a parent, guardian, or designated caregiver.

The General Directorate emphasized the importance of parents overseeing their children to avoid the unlawful use of electric bikes and scooters, as this presents significant risks to both their safety and that of others. Breaching these regulations could lead to legal consequences, including a penalty of up to six months in prison and a fine of BD500.

The General Directorate of Traffic encouraged riders of electric bikes and scooters to adhere to the directives given by traffic and police officers and to halt immediately when instructed. It highlighted that failing to comply with these directives is considered a violation that may result in legal repercussions and endangers both their own safety and that of others. It urged everyone to observe traffic laws and regulations to contribute to enhancing public safety and security.
