Developed under a power purchase agreement (PPA), the project includes the construction of the world’s largest single-site rooftop solar power plant with a capacity of 50 megawatts, featuring 77,000 solar panels installed across the company’s stockyard covering an area of 262,000 square metres.

The announcement was made on November 2–3, 2025, during the Gateway Gulf 2025 Forum, the region’s premier investment event hosted by the Bahrain Economic Development Board. In order to discuss important investment prospects and establish connections with top Gulf development initiatives, the forum brought together representatives from the public and private sectors, senior investors, and international decision-makers.

“The Kingdom of Bahrain has established an advanced position among nations that embrace innovation in promoting sustainability,” said Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development and Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board. We are really proud of this innovative proposal to construct the biggest rooftop solar power plant in the world in Bahrain. In addition to demonstrating the Kingdom’s leadership in the field of renewable energy, this program demonstrates our dedication to and adaptability in funding important initiatives that serve our country’s sustainable future goal.

“Over the past few years, Foulath has invested approximately USD 250 million in various sustainable development projects,” stated Meshary Al-Judaimi, Chairman of Foulath Holding. By ensuring that industrial expansion is in line with environmental care, these investments demonstrate our commitment to ethical business practices and safeguarding the health and welfare of our community. This dedication is maintained by the solar power project.

“Congratulations to Foulath Holding and Yellow Door Energy on this historic agreement to develop the world’s largest single-site rooftop solar power plant,” stated Sherif ElKholy, Managing Director and Head of the Middle East and Africa at Actis and Chairman of Yellow Door Energy. This initiative sets a new global standard for the manufacture of carbon-free steel and shows how clean and competitive energy can improve industrial operations. We are pleased to see this signing and eagerly await the project’s completion as a leading investor in sustainable infrastructure and a significant shareholder in Yellow Door Energy.

The 123 megawatt site, which is anticipated to be one of the biggest industrial-scale solar projects in the world, will have four ground-mounted installations and 10 rooftop solar photovoltaic plants, greatly lowering carbon emissions in Bahrain’s steel industry.

Using more than 189,900 high-efficiency solar panels spread over 707,000 square meters, the project hopes to reduce carbon emissions by 90,000 metric tonnes while producing 200 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy in its first year of operation. Both Bahrain’s Net Zero 2060 aim and Foulath Holding’s sustainability objectives are supported by this project.

“We are proud to host the world’s largest rooftop solar power project at Foulath Holding,” stated Dilip George, Group CEO of Foulath Holding, in celebration of this accomplishment. Our dedication to decarbonizing our operations, environmental responsibility, and community well-being is reflected in this 123-megawatt project with Yellow Door Energy. Foulath Holding will keep up its leadership in sustainable growth, establish new benchmarks for the sector, and help Bahrain and the surrounding area have a more profitable and environmentally friendly future.

“Yellow Door Energy is honored to have been selected by Foulath Holding for this major 123-megawatt project,” stated Jeremy Crane, Group CEO of Yellow Door Energy. We are dedicated to assisting top industrial firms like SULB and Bahrain Steel in decarbonizing their operations and achieving significant cost savings. Since we recently celebrated our tenth anniversary and are currently building the largest single-site rooftop solar plant in the world, this project has particular significance. We are thrilled to keep promoting renewable energy in heavy industries and supporting Bahrain’s Net Zero 2060 goal as the top solar firm for companies in Bahrain, the Middle East, and Africa.

Throughout the duration of the power purchase agreement, Yellow Door Energy, as the solar developer, will oversee the project’s funding, design, construction, operation, and maintenance. Through this partnership, businesses may benefit from renewable energy solutions while lowering energy expenses without having to make an upfront investment or take on operational risk.

Yellow Door Energy’s operational solar projects have reduced carbon emissions by 400,000 metric tonnes and generated over one billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy thus far. After ten years, the company is still at the forefront of providing safe and effective renewable energy solutions in the area, with a growing portfolio of 400 megawatts of awarded projects.

In order to ensure that development happens strategically, sustainably, and with social responsibility, Foulath Holding is still dedicated to coordinating its operations with the ideals of economic growth and environmental preservation. Its programs are strategically in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
