The Gulf Health Council and the Healthy Cities Committee of the Secretariat-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) started this effort to further support healthy lifestyles and improve health in local communities.

In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the GCC states’ shared health vision, the Ministry of Health emphasized that its involvement is consistent with its continued support for the collaborative Gulf efforts to improve public health.

The City Centre Bahrain, The Avenues Bahrain, and Enma Mall malls that applied to be a part of the project in 2025 were all included in the examination. Accredited evaluators from the GCC countries’ Ministries of Health joined Dr. Fatima Al-Mutawa, Head of the Programs Section in the Health Promotion Directorate, in chairing the assessment committee.

The Ministry went on to explain that the project is based on six main pillars: community partnership, hygiene and the environment, security and safety, healthy lifestyles, awareness-raising, and the caliber of community services. It is being carried out using a standardized process that involves field trips to gauge how well the participating malls follow the established guidelines.
