Manama, February 15 (BNA): Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education, and Olli-Pekka Heinonen, Director General of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to start implementing the International Baccalaureate program in Bahraini government schools. This is a significant step in the Kingdom of Bahrain’s educational history. The program will be launched in September 2026, at the beginning of the following academic year.

A delegation from the IBO, representatives from Bahrain’s public and private schools, and officials from the ministry’s various education sectors attended the signing, which was held at the Ministry of Education‘s headquarters in Isa Town.

The Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, were thanked by Dr. Juma for their ongoing support of education in the Kingdom.

According to the Education Minister, the International Baccalaureate is being introduced in government schools for the first time, beginning at the intermediate level in Year 8 of the Middle Years Programme (MYP). After finishing this phase, students will go on to the Diploma Program, which culminates in the secondary school International Baccalaureate certificate. The ministry will release comprehensive information on implementation, assessment criteria, and student registration requirements, he continued.

He praised the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the IBO, calling it a major step in the development of education that will benefit students’ academic performance and future studies.
