Based on a number of important criteria, such as the development of a multipurpose area that promotes social cohesiveness within the urban fabric while highlighting social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and accessibility, participating students showcased their design models to the judging panel.
“The Urban Design Competition is part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to promote community engagement and empower youth to use their creative and academic skills in serving society,” emphasized Ammar Sami Qambar, Humanitarian Affairs Advisor and Acting Director of Planning and Development at RHF. He pointed out that through collaboration with academic and professional institutions, the competition allows students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice and obtain real-world experience.
He added that the competition intends to include UoB students in the planning of RHF’s future initiatives, opening the door for their execution as a component of the Foundation’s next development plans.
Dr. Noor Al Doy, an assistant professor of digital learning for industrial design, and Dr. Wafa Al Ghatam, chair of the university’s local and international competition committee, oversaw the contest. A number of academic mentors, including Drs. Manal Khalaf, Wafa Al Ghatam, Hawra Al Shaikh, Fatima Al Hammadi, Osama Omar, and Maryam Al Bastaki, were also assigned by the university to supervise the participating student teams.
The judges included Ahmed Mahjoubi, an urban planner at Mohammed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau; Dr. Mohammed Al-Kooheji, an associate professor at Kingdom University; and Dr. Huda Al Madhoub, an assistant professor of project management and head of the University of Bahrain‘s Department of Architecture and Interior Design.
