November 13, Manama (BNA): The University of Bahrain started a tree-planting campaign as part of national initiatives to increase green space and support environmental sustainability throughout the Kingdom.

Azzam Moutragi, CEO of Trafco Group; Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain; Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD); representatives from Saudi Arabia’s Net Zero company; and a number of officials attended the inauguration.

As part of a public-private partnership to raise awareness of environmental issues, stimulate tree planting, and preserve natural resources, 50 Millingtonia hortensis were planted as part of the event, which was sponsored by Trafco Group.

The purpose of the program, which involved University of Bahrain students, teachers, and administrative staff, was to increase awareness of the significance of expanding green spaces in order to lower carbon emissions and lessen the effects of climate change.

Shaikha Maram bint Isa emphasized that Bahrain’s dedication to accomplishing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through programs that improve quality of life and increase green spaces is reflected in the country’s afforestation drive. She emphasized that these initiatives are a part of an all-encompassing national vision that puts the environment first and encourages community involvement, especially among young people.

Dr. Al Ansari thanked the initiative, pointing out that it is in line with the university’s efforts to raise student understanding of environmental issues and promote involvement in community and sustainability initiatives.

Moutragi praised the program, emphasizing Trafco Group’s dedication to social responsibility and its backing of national environmental sustainability initiatives. He emphasized that collaboration between government agencies and academic institutions is a successful paradigm for promoting green development in the Kingdom.

The program is a component of Bahrain’s efforts to carry out Bahrain Vision 2030, which seeks to advance sustainability as a strategic national goal and strike a balance between environmental preservation and economic growth.
