Manama, February 2 (BNA) – After the Cabinet reviewed the opinions of Council of Representatives members on electricity and water services for citizens’ first homes, under the direction of Crown Prince and Prime Minister His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, a decision was made to change the electricity tariff for consumption between 5,000 and 7,000 units, according to Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan. For citizens’ first homes, the new tariff has been lowered from 32 fils per unit to 16 fils per unit.

He emphasized that this decision demonstrates the dedication to a constructive and partnership-based approach between the legislative and executive branches, pointing out that the opinions of members of the Council of Representatives were crucial in arriving at this amendment, which considers the needs of citizens and guarantees effective and efficient water and electricity services.

He mentioned that starting on January 1, the new tariff will be imposed retroactively to bills for citizens’ first residences.
