The recent discoveries from the second season of excavations in the A’ali West Burial Mounds Field, which includes over 700 burial mounds from the Early Dilmun period, were the main focus of the event. Recent findings and preliminary findings were shared, advancing our knowledge of the past and rich civilization of the area.

In a parallel occasion, Dr. Kiyohide Saito, Head of the Japanese Mission, spoke at an open meeting held by the Maqaba Burial Mounds Site in cooperation with the Archaeological Institute of Kashihara in Japan.

The seminar includes thorough explanations of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s historic burial customs, especially those connected to the almost 4,000-year-old Dilmun and Tylos civilizations. The spiritual and cultural profundity of ancient societies was reflected in the emphasized customs and symbols of those eras.

The events were attended by Dr. Salman Ahmed Almahari, Director General of Archaeology at BACA, as well as a number other Authority representatives and archaeology and heritage lovers.

The research and documentation of the Dilmun civilization and its successors are the main objectives of the Japanese archaeological mission in Bahrain, which is headed by organizations like the Archaeological Institute of Kashihara and the Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties. In order to document the archaeological landscape and advance knowledge of Bahrain’s ancient history—particularly Dilmun, which was a significant regional center in antiquity—they focus their work on the Dilmun burial mounds in Wadi Al Sail, the Maqaba Burial Mounds Site, and the A’ali West Burial Mounds Field.
