Bahrain has made significant progress in human rights and the fight against human trafficking thanks to a robust legal and labor framework put in place by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and backed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, said Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives.
Speaker: Bahrain’s Tier 1 ranking in Anti-Trafficking Report reflects strong national framework
He emphasized that the US Department of State’s Trafficking in Persons Report’s Tier 1 ranking for Bahrain for the eighth year in a row is a result of strong collaboration between the legislative and executive branches, a deeply ingrained social culture, national initiatives, and the institutional work carried out by the appropriate authorities, especially the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons.
Al Musallam also emphasized the legislative authority’s dedication to advancing Bahrain‘s legal system and overseeing the application of pertinent policies and processes. In this sense, Bahrain has emerged as a preeminent regional and global model, bolstering international trust in the Kingdom and its accomplishments in defending the rights of all parties involved in the labor relationship through a civilized and rights-based approach. In accordance with the rule of law, justice, and human rights, he added, this also helps to draw in investment, promote economic initiatives, and offer a secure and safe environment for living, working, and production.
Fighting human trafficking is still a national priority, a societal value, and an essential component of Bahraini culture, which continuously strives to protect human rights at all levels and in all sectors, he said, adding to the country’s many accomplishments under its comprehensive development path.
A number of organizations, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, the Supreme Judicial Council, the Public Prosecution, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Waqf, the Ministry of Labor, the National Communication Center (NCC), the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), and civil society organizations, were also commended by the Speaker for their efforts in achieving and preserving this high international standing.
