October 20, Manama (BNA): Every five years on October 20th, the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) commemorates World Statistics Day.

iGA celebrates World Statistics Day 2025

Under the theme “Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone” this year, the event emphasizes the value of trustworthy data, innovation in national systems, and the timely and accurate delivery of indicators to gauge progress in a variety of sectors. It also highlights the role that high-quality, dependable statistics play in promoting sustainable development and informed decision-making.

The iGA’s Chief Executive, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, praised Bahrain’s leadership for their backing of the statistics industry, highlighting their strong conviction in the use of reliable data to inform decisions, create successful policies, and promote sustainable development.

Al Qaed commended experts in the data and statistical fields for their continuous work in delivering trustworthy, accurate information to the public and decision-makers. He praised the government’s dedication to this important area, pointing out that it plays a crucial role in forming laws, directing choices, and bolstering national capabilities to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of data.

According to Al Qaed, making well-informed decisions requires precise and trustworthy statistics. He pointed out that in order to give citizens and decision-makers access to high-quality data, the iGA keeps improving national statistics systems through the use of cutting-edge technology and methodology. He went on to say that World Statistics Day emphasizes how data drives sustainable development, how data collecting can be more innovative, and how technology can be used to improve quality and address issues like the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Chief Executive pointed out that Bahrain has long been a leader in statistics, having started with the first census in the region in 1941 and continuing through the country’s eleventh national census in 2020.

He emphasized the value of regional and global collaboration, pointing out that the iGA collaborates closely with the GCC Statistical Centre and other regional, international, and Arab organizations to share knowledge and harmonize best practices and standards. He went on to say that the iGA’s involvement in international gatherings, such as the UN Statistical Commission, and its collaborations with national organizations, such the General Authority for Statistics in Saudi Arabia, through memoranda of understanding, aid in the creation of precise, consistent indicators. These initiatives strengthen transparency, show off Bahrain‘s advancements in leveraging technology and data to better services, and reinforce the country’s commitment to sustainable development as a leader.

To provide thorough, accurate data that aids in national planning and decision-making, the iGA conducts a large number of surveys. The National Health, Education, Household Income and Expenditure, Economic Establishments, Tourism, and Industrial Products surveys are a few of these. The generated statistics provide important indicators in the social, health, and economic spheres, empowering the public and government organizations to make well-informed, fact-based decisions.

In order to encourage transparency and facilitate data-driven decision-making, the iGA also makes extensive, current open government data available through the Bahrain Open Data Portal, which allows people to freely view, download, and analyze datasets.

With participation from more than 130 nations, World Statistics Day is observed every five years with the goals of enhancing statistical capability, encouraging data gathering innovation, advancing the use of technology to improve data quality, and facilitating efficient responses to global issues.
