TRA announces launch of satellite direct-to-device services

As the first nation in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to introduce satellite direct-to-device services, Bahrain’s standing as one of the most developed and well-connected countries in the world is further strengthened by this endeavor.

The completion and release of the relevant consultation report, which is a crucial component of the TRA’s larger plan to establish Bahrain as a global leader in connectivity and digital innovation, comes after the debut of these services. As a result of this move, the Kingdom is now the first in the region to approve the use of cutting-edge technology that allows regular mobile phones to connect directly to satellites in places that are not covered by terrestrial networks, such as maritime zones.

The TRA intends to improve safety, resilience, and connection for citizens, residents, and visitors alike by implementing Satellite Direct-to-Device services, which will guarantee that vital communication services are always available.

Satellite direct-to-device services represent a significant advancement in Bahrain’s telecommunications ecosystem, according to Philip Marnick, General Director of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA). He noted that approving the technology as the first in the GCC enhances the Kingdom’s standing in digital connectivity and innovation. He went on to say that the project demonstrates the TRA’s dedication to offering top-notch telecommunications services and guarantees connectivity beyond terrestrial networks, promoting safety, economic activity, and national resilience.

The TRA’s continuous efforts to improve statewide connectivity, support emerging technologies, and guarantee that Bahrain’s telecommunications framework is future-ready and in line with worldwide best practices are highlighted by the launch of Satellite Direct-to-Device services.
