EWA President: Tender launched for Bahrain’s first solar power plant
As part of the Kingdom’s commitment to become carbon neutral by 2060, the project contributes to national initiatives to increase the use of renewable energy and advance environmental sustainability.
Mohammed pointed out that the project will be managed by a group of both domestic and foreign consulting businesses. When the tender is released, Trowers & Hamlins will be the legal advisor, WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff will be the technical advisor, and KPMG Fakhro will be the financial advisor.
In order to increase the proportion of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix, he emphasized that the project is a crucial step in fortifying Bahrain’s sustainable energy infrastructure and encouraging closer cooperation with the private sector.
The 1.2 sq km plant, which is close to Bilaj Al Jazayer in southern Bahrain, will use cutting-edge solar technology to satisfy the Kingdom’s expanding energy needs and provide long-term energy security.
In addition to reducing carbon emissions by more than 100,000 tonnes yearly, the solar plant is anticipated to supply electricity for about 6,300 households, supporting future infrastructure development and Bahrain‘s sustainability objectives.
