Manama, Oct. 21 (BNA): To enhance international medical cooperation and exchange knowledge in diagnosing and treating rare and complex conditions, the Royal Medical Services (RMS) – King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) arranged a coordination meeting to explore a possible Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Boston Children’s hospital in the United States.

Colonel Dr. Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Commander of KHUH; Dr. Edward Ronald, Chief Executive of the Bahrain Oncology Center; and Brigadier Dr. Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Commander of the RMS and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Treatment Abroad.

The goal of the proposed agreement is to create a cutting-edge medical alliance for the diagnosis and treatment of uncommon pediatric illnesses. Using video communication technologies, this would enable clinicians in Bahrain to access the knowledge of top Boston Children’s Hospital consultants for remote medical consultations.

In order to immediately evaluate complex cases, specialized medical teams from Boston would travel to Bahrain as part of the agreement. Additionally, patients who need advanced care abroad would have their treatment coordinated.

This project is a component of the RMS‘s plan to strengthen the Kingdom’s healthcare system, draw in foreign knowledge, and foster international collaboration in order to improve patient diagnosis and care.
