Amman, Aug. 24 (BNA): The 2025 Arab Karate Championship, which took place in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, saw the Bahraini national karate team win three medals.
Bahrain karate team wins three medals at Arab Championship in Jordan
After overcoming his Lebanese opponent (7-1) and the Jordanian competitor (4-0), Abdulla Bassam narrowly lost the final to another Jordanian athlete and took home a silver medal in the Juniors’ under-52kg division.
Dana Abdullah defeated her Jordanian opponent 6-0 to earn a bronze medal in the Juniors’ under-42kg division.
Fatema Yousef lost to a Jordanian opponent 6-1, but she still managed to secure a bronze medal in the Seniors’ under-55kg division.
Fawzeya Al Omairi (Cadets) and a Jordanian athlete drew 6-6 on the second day of games before the umpires decided the match in favor of her opponent (2-2). After losing by a total of points against Mohammed Jaafari, the world number one in Jordan, Yousef Nawaf (Olympic category) was ousted in the repêchage by a competitor from Qatar. After falling to a Saudi competitor 9-1, Olympic participant Fatima Falamerzi was eliminated in the opening round.
According to coach Bassam Eid, the tournament provided exposure to powerful Arab teams with worldwide recognition, like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Algeria, as well as invaluable experience. The medals earned by athletes chosen from the “Ana Mawhoob” campaign are a hopeful accomplishment for the future of Bahraini karate, he said, praising the team’s excellent performance. The athletes’ performance and their efforts to promote Bahrain at the regional championships were also praised by him.
