National Digital Economy Strategy Steering Committee holds 4th meeting and Reviews Initiatives to Advance the Kingdom’s Digital Transformation

The meeting is a component of the Committee’s continuous efforts to oversee the NDES’s implementation, which aims to boost innovation across important sectors, enhance the Kingdom’s standing as an integrated digital economic hub, and foster an environment that is appealing to digital investment. The senior leadership and General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Minister of the Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology (MCICT), have directed this.

Members of the committee examined the NDES initiatives, including seven that have been finished and others that are encountering difficulties. The Committee is directed to make sure these projects fulfill their intended strategic goals and are finished within the allotted time frames.

According to Al Qaed, the meeting’s main objective was to improve coordination amongst the organizations carrying out the national initiatives in order to facilitate their timely completion and the accomplishment of the strategy’s objectives. In order to guarantee that the strategy is implemented properly and efficiently, he emphasized the significance of implementing the highest standards of digital governance and utilizing cutting-edge technologies.

This strategy highlights the benefits of the country’s digital transformation for the economy and society while also supporting the ongoing improvement of government services and increasing their effectiveness. Additionally, it guarantees that the Kingdom is in a strong position to take advantage of digital opportunities and deal with upcoming regional and global difficulties.

Several significant national initiatives, such as the creation of the Innovation and Advanced Technologies Directorate at the iGA, raising the percentage of scholarships in STEM fields to over 84% in the 2023–2024 academic year, and coordinating the national cybersecurity strategy with the goals of the digital economy, have already been completed during the strategy’s first phase.

These are a part of a larger plan to carry out 49 projects by 2030, assisting national initiatives to develop a creative and sustainable digital economy and improve the Kingdom of Bahrain’s competitiveness both locally and internationally.
