Manama, Feb. 22 (BNA): The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has given the “Green Factory Seal” to over 40 enterprises as part of a nationwide initiative to advance sustainability and improve industrial efficiency. The program increases environmental compliance, promotes sustainable industrial practices, and makes Bahrain’s industrial sector more competitive.
Industry Ministry grants “Green Factory Seal” to over 40 factories
The project supports the Kingdom of Bahrain’s objectives in low-emission solutions, environmental and social governance (ESG), and the circular carbon economy. It also coincides with the Industry Sector Strategy (2022–2026). In collaboration with partners in the private sector, it provides factories with incentives and benefits.
The project demonstrates the improved environmental consciousness of participating enterprises and shows an efficient public-private partnership, according to Minister of Industry and Commerce Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro. In order to improve the sector’s preparedness for changes in the economy, environment, and global supply chains, he reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to growing the program.
One important incentive mechanism helping Bahrain achieve its carbon neutrality targets is the Green Factory Mark. In accordance with international best practices, it promotes increased operational effectiveness, prudent resource management, and the implementation of eco-friendly technologies.
In addition to requirements like industrial waste reuse, renewable energy adoption, ESG policies, emissions monitoring and greenhouse gas accounting, and carbon capture technologies, the Ministry updated the mark’s criteria to reflect recent sustainability developments. One new addition is a tree-planting standard during Bahrain’s Tree Week.
The program now has new key partners: Copa Company will offer solar energy installations and other sustainable solutions at low prices, while BBK will offer concessional financing options. These collaborations seek to increase the initiative’s economic and environmental effect by assisting factories in transitioning from commitment to actual execution.
The Green Factory Seal strengthens the Kingdom’s position in international climate action, promotes Bahrain’s larger sustainability goal, and is consistent with the country’s plan to become carbon neutral by 2060.
