January 7, Manama (BNA): The internationally renowned Gem-A Foundation Certificate in Gemmology, which is approved by the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A), is now accepting applications from the Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT). The program will start in February.

For more than a century, Gem-A, the oldest gemmology education organization in the world, has trained generations of gemmologists worldwide. Its Foundation Certificate, which provides a solid academic foundation and real-world experience, is generally recognized as a doorway into the worldwide gem and jewelry sector.

This project demonstrates DANAT’s dedication to enhancing Bahrain’s standing as a worldwide center for gemstone knowledge. Due to the ongoing growth of the luxury jewelry industry and rising global expectations regarding transparency, traceability, and adherence to the highest professional standards, there is an increasing need for highly qualified, internationally accredited professionals.

DANAT is pleased to be the first Gem-A teaching center in the Middle East to receive accreditation. The institute hopes to give participants a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of natural gemstones, pearls, and diamonds through this prestigious curriculum. By offering the fundamental information and technical skills required to start and run jewelry-related businesses, the qualification opens possibilities to entrepreneurial endeavors. Additionally, the program fosters the growth of professional professions in a number of fields, such as jewelry design, laboratory analysis, gemstone assessment, and gem trade and investing. Additionally, graduates can continue their education by pursuing the globally recognized Gem-A Diploma in Gemmology.

A wide range of important subjects are covered in the curriculum, such as how to identify and categorize gemstones, how to handle and care for them properly, and how different kinds of gemstones are used commercially. In addition to gaining practical expertise in handling gemstones in their many forms, participants will acquire insight into the major variables influencing gemstone valuation and market pricing. The features of organic, synthetic, and imitation materials frequently used in the gem trade are further examined in this course.

The entire gemstone lifecycle—from extraction and processing to retail—will be covered, and participants will receive instruction in the use of specialized gemmological tools and testing techniques. The capacity to correctly differentiate between natural, treated, and synthetic gemstones in a professional setting is a crucial learning objective.

“A new batch for this globally recognized certificate is being launched in response to real market demand, both locally and across the region,” stated Noora Jamsheer, CEO of DANAT. We see a clear need for competent personnel with internationally benchmarked scientific knowledge as the gem and jewelry industry quickly moves toward more technical and academic specialization. By empowering the upcoming generation of Bahraini and regional gemstone specialists, DANAT is pleased to support this aim.

Jamsheer added that although Bahrain has a longstanding and illustrious history as the world’s natural pearl capital and a regional standard in this area, there are still few internationally recognized gemmology experts. This emphasizes how crucial it is to increase specialized educational pathways in order to close this gap and connect the Kingdom’s rich pearl legacy with cutting-edge scientific knowledge. These initiatives are especially important in light of the high-end jewelry industry’s notable expansion and the worldwide industry’s growing focus on consumer trust and transparency, both of which have increased demand for professionals with internationally recognized credentials.
