Manama, February 9 (BNA): In collaboration with the Royal University for Women in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR) has announced the start of the 16th edition of the Middle East Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Pre-Moot, which will take place from February 8–12.
16th edition of Middle East Willem C. Vis Pre-Moot commences in Bahrain
As part of their preparations to compete in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, which is held annually at the international level, the BCDR organized the event on the campus of the Royal University for Women, with 106 participants representing 15 countries and 19 university teams.
During the opening, Matthew Brown, Acting Registrar of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre; Professor Riyad Yousif Hamzah, President of the Royal University for Women; and Ahmed Husain Abdulrahman, Chief Executive Officer of the BCDR, gave welcoming remarks.
A seminar on third-party funding and the International Bar Association’s evidence-gathering methodology was also presented by Professor Jan Paulsson, President of the Bahrain International Commercial Court.
The Middle East Vis Pre-Moot, now in its 16th edition, is still helping law students and improving their competitiveness and preparedness, especially in the Middle East, to compete in one of the top worldwide commercial arbitration contests.
The event has become a premier regional training platform throughout the years, offering advanced and structured preparation in a top-tier, interactive academic setting.
Pleadings are presented before panels of eminent arbitrators and arbitration practitioners, as well as academics and legal scholars, during five days of simulated arbitration procedures based on the issue for the thirty-third edition of the Vis Moot.
The curriculum includes structured evaluation and feedback rounds to improve participants’ written and oral advocacy abilities, argument-building sessions, and specialized workshops that address the procedural and substantive parts of the moot situation.
In keeping with a shared commitment to capacity-building and skills development in international commercial arbitration in the Middle East and North Africa, the event is supported by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, the Jus Mundi platform, and several Bahraini and regional law firms.
This year’s program includes specialized workshops on evidence management and third-party finance, advanced instruction in international commercial arbitration processes, and useful advice on creating timetables and case theory in intricate cross-border business conflicts. Students can interact directly with top arbitration specialists and gain the research, writing, and advocacy skills necessary for the practice of international dispute resolution thanks to the program’s special emphasis on academic and professional mentoring and networking.

The Middle East Vis Pre-Moot has helped hundreds of students in past years and introduced them to a global network of academics, arbitrators, and legal experts, many of whom still offer advice and mentoring after the event is over.
The 16th edition is anticipated to strengthen the Kingdom of Bahrain’s standing as a regional center for international commercial arbitration education and training while also improving the performance and global visibility of the competing teams.
As they get ready for the next international oral rounds in Vienna and Hong Kong, participating teams will continue to gain from the knowledge, experiences, criticism, and lessons learned in the Kingdom of Bahrain after the Pre-Moot.
Additionally, the BCDR will keep working with its partners to enhance next Middle East Willem C. Vis Pre-Moot editions and create new training projects.
